A parents' guide to finding a rishta online

For parents new to online matrimony: talking with your child, creating the profile, privacy, shortlisting, interests, meetings and the rishta diary.

For many parents in our samaj, searching for a son's or daughter's rishta online feels unfamiliar. For years the process ran through relatives, phone calls and printed samaj booklets. Today the same search can reach families in Jodhpur, Bikaner, Mumbai and abroad in one evening. That reach is useful, but only if parents feel comfortable with how it works. This guide is written for parents, step by step, in simple words.

Talk to your son or daughter first

Before creating any profile, sit down together. Agree on the basics:

  • Is your child ready to marry, and do they want you to begin the search?
  • What matters most to them: city, education, work, family background, age range?
  • How involved does your child want to be? Some prefer parents to shortlist first; others want to see every profile.
  • Who will answer messages and calls from other families?

A search goes much more smoothly when parents and the candidate agree on these things at the start.

Create the profile together

On Pushkarna Match, one account can hold more than one profile, so parents can keep a son's and a daughter's profile in the same login and switch between them. Family members such as the father, mother or an elder brother can also be added to log in to the same profile with their own mobile number.

When filling in the biodata:

  • Use a clear, recent photo of the candidate alone, in good light.
  • Fill in the family details the way elders introduce a family: father, mother, dada ji, nana ji, native place and nanihal.
  • Enter the gotra and the nanihal gotra exactly, so the automatic gotra check works.
  • Add the exact date, time and place of birth, so guna milan and Mangal dosha can be worked out with every profile.
  • Write a short introduction in your own words.

Our guide on writing a biodata families actually read has more detail.

Every profile is checked by a samaj admin before it is shown to others. The profile strength meter shows what is still missing; a complete profile gets far more responses.

Understand how privacy works

Many parents worry about their daughter's photo or the family's phone number being visible to strangers. On this site:

  • Only logged-in members of the samaj can see profiles at all.
  • You can choose to keep photos blurred until you accept a family's interest.
  • Contact numbers are shown only after both families accept the interest.
  • Chat between families is end-to-end encrypted.

Our article on staying safe while searching online explains the few habits that keep the search safe.

Browsing and shortlisting

Open Browse to see profiles that match the age range and other preferences. For each profile you can see the gotra check, the guna milan score with your child, education, work and family details. A few tips:

  • Use filters for city, education and age, and save a search so you are told when new matching profiles are approved.
  • Use the shortlist to keep profiles you like, and compare two or three side by side.
  • Share the shortlist with relatives through the family link, so grandparents or uncles can give their opinion without needing an account.

Sending and receiving interests

When you like a profile, send an interest with a short, polite note. The other family can accept or decline. When an interest is accepted on both sides, photos, contact numbers and chat open up.

If you receive an interest from a family that does not suit you, decline it politely. A quick, courteous answer is kinder than leaving a family waiting.

Before the first call or meeting

Once both sides accept, a phone call between parents usually comes first. Talk about the families, the candidates' work and plans, and the next step. Then arrange a meeting, ideally at a family home or a public place, with elders present. You can propose a meeting date, time and place right from the chat, and it will appear in your rishta diary with a reminder.

Our guide on the first meeting between families has practical suggestions, and our list of questions to discuss before saying yes helps you prepare.

Kundli and gotra

The site checks the gotra and the nanihal gotra automatically and shows any concern clearly. It also shows guna milan, Nadi and Bhakoot dosha and Mangal dosha for every match. You can print a full kundli milan report to show your family pandit. Our explainers on gotra and nanihal gotra and on Nadi and Bhakoot dosha cover what families look for.

Keep a record with the rishta diary

When you are talking to more than one family, it is easy to forget who said what. The private rishta diary lets you note the stage of each rishta, what was discussed, and when to follow up. The other family never sees it.

Respect your child's feelings

Technology makes the search faster, but the decision is still a human one. Listen to your son or daughter, give them time to talk to the other candidate, and remember that a good match is one where both young people are comfortable. As the samaj says, the families make the introduction; the couple builds the marriage.

Common questions

Can relatives see the profile without an account? Relatives can give their opinion on shortlisted profiles through the family link without registering. Full profiles are visible only to logged-in members.

What if our child wants to talk directly to the other candidate? Once both families accept the interest, chat and video call open. Many families let the two young people talk after the parents' first call.

How long does approval take? The samaj admin checks every profile, usually quickly. A complete biodata with a clear photo is approved faster.

In short

Talk with your child first, create a complete and honest profile together, use the privacy settings, browse and shortlist carefully, send polite interests, and meet in person before deciding. When you are ready, create a free profile and begin the search among families of the samaj. If you need help at any step, the samaj team is only a message away through the contact page.
