Questions about guna milan

How the score is calculated, what it covers and what it does not.

Check Kundli Milan
01How is the score calculated?

The Moon's position at each birth is calculated astronomically and converted to the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsa. That gives the Moon sign (rashi) and birth nakshatra. The eight kootas are then scored from the traditional Ashtakoot tables, for a total out of 36.

02Why is the birth place not asked?

Guna milan uses only the Moon sign and nakshatra, which depend on the date and exact time of birth. The time you enter is taken as Indian Standard Time. For a birth outside India, convert the birth time to IST first.

03What is the minimum score for marriage?

Traditionally 18 out of 36 is taken as the minimum. Above 24 is considered good and above 32 excellent. The score is one input among many; families also look at doshas, the full kundli and, above all, the two people and their families.

04Does this check Manglik dosha?

No. Manglik dosha depends on the position of Mars in the full birth chart, which needs the lagna (ascendant) and birth place. Please ask your family pandit for that.

05Are Nadi and Bhakoot dosha final?

No. Shastra gives several parihar (cancellation) rules for both, for example when the Moon sign lords are the same or friends. This tool points out the dosha but does not apply the cancellation rules, so let a pandit decide.

06Are the birth details saved?

No. The details entered on this page are used only to calculate the result and are not stored.
