Families of the Harit gotra trace their line to Rishi Harit.
A gotra is the family line traced through the father to an ancient rishi. Families of the same gotra are traditionally treated as one extended family, so a marriage within the same gotra (sagotra vivah) is avoided. Many families also avoid the mother's gotra (nanihal gotra).
On this site every profile shows an automatic gotra check, so families see straight away whether a match is within the same gotra.
If you know more about this gotra or avatank, please write to us so the elders can add it. Contact
