Shunak is one of the gotras found in the Pushkarna Brahmin samaj.
A gotra is the family line traced through the father to an ancient rishi. Families of the same gotra are traditionally treated as one extended family, so a marriage within the same gotra (sagotra vivah) is avoided. Many families also avoid the mother's gotra (nanihal gotra).
