Seven habits worth keeping
- Verify before you trust. Speak to the family on a call, ask about relatives and native place, and confirm through someone in the samaj who knows them.
- Never send money. No genuine family asks a stranger for money, a loan, a "customs fee" or help in an emergency. If anyone does, stop the conversation and report the profile.
- Do not share documents. Aadhaar, PAN, bank details and passwords have no place in a rishta conversation.
- Keep early conversations on the platform. Move to phone and personal numbers only when both families are comfortable.
- Meet with family present. First meetings should happen with parents or elders, at home or in a public place.
- Be careful with photos. Share only the kind of photos you would be comfortable seeing in a family album.
- Trust the feeling of hurry. Someone who pushes for a quick decision, or avoids a video call or a family meeting, is giving you a reason to slow down.
