NRI Pushkarna rishta: finding a match across countries

For Pushkarna families in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia or the Gulf: how to search, talk, meet and decide when the two families live far apart.

Many Pushkarna families today live far from Jodhpur, Bikaner and Jaisalmer. Sons and daughters study and work in the USA, the UK, Canada, Australia, Singapore or the Gulf, while grandparents and the wider family are still in Rajasthan. When the time comes for a rishta, most of these families still want what their own parents had: a match within the samaj, with the gotra checked and the elders involved. Distance makes that harder, but not impossible. This guide is for NRI families and for families in India who are open to a rishta abroad.

Decide what both families can live with

Before you start, talk honestly at home. Is the candidate settled abroad for good, or likely to return? Is the family open to a partner who lives in India and would move, or only to someone already abroad? Which country and which city? These answers decide which profiles are worth your time. Write them in the partner preference of the biodata so families on the other side know at once.

  • Where the couple will live, at least for the next few years
  • Whether the partner would need a visa, and how long that usually takes
  • Work: will both work, and can the partner's career continue in the new country
  • How often the couple can visit the parents in India

Make the biodata clear for families in India

Families in India read a biodata with care. Write the current city and country, the visa or citizenship status in simple words, the exact job and company, and how long you have lived there. Add the native place and the names of dada ji and nana ji, so that families recognise you. A recent, clear photo matters even more when the families cannot simply drop by. The quick biodata takes two minutes, and the details can be filled in later.

Search the whole samaj, not one city

On Pushkarna Match every family, in India or abroad, sees the same admin-approved profiles. Search by age, education and marital status, keep the gotra check on, and look at the guna milan shown on each card. Do not limit the city too early: many families in Jodhpur or Mumbai are happy for their daughter or son to move abroad after marriage.

Talk before anyone travels

Once both families accept the interest, the contact number, messages and video call open on the site. Use them. A first video call between the two candidates, and a second one with both families, saves a great deal of time and money. Plan the calls around the time difference: an evening in India is morning in the USA. Read our note on the first video call before you begin.

Check carefully, kindly

Distance can hide things, so check with care and without suspicion. Ask relatives or friends in the same city to meet the family. Ask about the job and the visa openly; a genuine family will not mind. Never send money, gifts or documents to someone you have not met, whatever the reason given. Our guide to staying safe online lists the warning signs.

Meet, then decide

When both families are comfortable, plan a meeting during a visit to India, usually with the parents present. Many families combine it with a family function or a parichay sammelan. Match the kundli with your family pandit, talk about the wedding and where the couple will live, and give yourselves enough time. A rishta across countries works best when both families feel they were never rushed.
