A parichay sammelan, the introduction meet organised by the samaj, is one of the oldest and warmest ways of finding a rishta. In one hall, on one day, many families meet, candidates introduce themselves on stage, and a booklet of biodatas goes from hand to hand. Online search has not replaced it; the two work best together. Here is how to prepare.
Before the day
- Register early with the organisers, and check the date and venue on our samaj events page
- Bring printed copies of the biodata; you can print a clean one from your profile on Pushkarna Match
- Carry recent photos and the birth details, in case a family wants to match the kundli
- Decide at home who will speak to other families and what the family is looking for
The introduction on stage
Most sammelans give each candidate a minute or two. Keep it simple and warm: name, age, education, work, the city you live in, your native place, and one line about the kind of family you hope to join. Speak slowly and smile. Parents can stand nearby; it reassures other families.
Talking to families
After the introductions, families move around and talk. Write down the names, cities and phone numbers of the families you like, with a line to remember each by. Do not decide anything on the day; the aim is to start conversations, not to finish them.
After the sammelan
This is where many good matches are lost, simply because families forget to follow up. Within a week, look up the families you met on Pushkarna Match, save their profiles, and send an interest. Check the gotra and the guna milan on the profile, and keep notes in your private rishta diary so you remember who said what and when to call again.
A note for organisers
If you organise a parichay sammelan, write to us through the contact page. We will add the event to the samaj events page so that every family on the site, in India and abroad, hears about it.
