Once both families accept an interest on Pushkarna Match, a video call opens on the site, with no app to install. For many families today this call comes before any meeting in person, especially when the families live in different cities or countries. A little preparation makes it relaxed instead of awkward.
Who joins the first call
There is no single rule. Some families prefer the parents to speak first and the candidates later; others let the two candidates talk on their own, with the families joining a second call. Agree on this beforehand through the families, so nobody is surprised.
Getting ready
- Choose a quiet room with light falling on your face, not behind you
- Check the internet and the phone's battery ten minutes before
- Keep the phone steady at eye level, not in your hand
- Dress as you would for a family visit
- Fix a time that suits both sides, keeping any time difference in mind
Good things to talk about
The aim of the first call is to see whether you are comfortable talking to each other. Keep it light and real:
- Your work or studies, and what you enjoy about them
- Family: brothers, sisters, and how the family spends time together
- Daily life: food, festivals, hobbies, a typical weekend
- Where you hope to live in the next few years
- What matters to you in a home and a marriage
What to leave for later
Some subjects need more trust and usually the families too: money and property, health matters, exact plans for the wedding, and anything about earlier relationships. These are important, but the first call is not the place to settle them. Our list of conversations before saying yes can guide the later talks.
After the call
Talk at home about how it felt. Was the conversation easy? Did you feel respected? If both sides want to continue, a second call with the families, and then a meeting, are the natural next steps. Note your thoughts in the private rishta diary on the site. And whatever the outcome, reply to the other family politely; a kind no is better than silence.
